Taters 03:27
You arta be fryin' taters You arta be fryin' taters You arta be fryin' taters every night You arta be fryin' taters You arta be fryin' taters I ain't gonna eat no taters lest their fried I woke up in the morning Charlene wasn't there She wasn't in the bed by my side I looked out in the kitchen Now I'm a wishin' That I had me a pan of taters fried Oh Charlene, where'd you up and go? Why did you leave me last night? I looked out in the front yard I looked out in the barn yard Charlene was nowhere in sight You arta be fryin' taters You arta be fryin' taters You arta be fryin' taters every night You arta be fryin' taters You arta be fryin' taters I ain't gonna eat no taters lest their fried Maybe she's a cheatin' Maybe she's a meetin' Some other fellar who likes his taters fried I think I'll go a lookin' She's probably a cookin' For that other fellar who likes his taters fried I bowed my head and prayed Said, "Lord make me a way To get me a pan of taters fried Charlene has departed" So I walked down to the garden And saw a sight to make a fellar cry "Oh, Charlene, I thought that you had gone I thought you had left me last night" There she was a standin' A hoe in both her hands and Diggin' lots of taters for to fry You arta be fryin' taters You arta be fryin' taters You arta be fryin' taters every night You arta be fryin' taters You arta be fryin' taters I ain't gonna eat no taters lest their fried

I lived down Kentucky on a farm with lots of hills Day by day a workin' so I could eat my fill I plan on going back some day so I can see my kin Sure is 'bout the prettiest place that I have ever been I worked in tobaccer with good ol' uncle Paul He could spit the farthest of anyone I ever saw I stayed a while with granny so I could mow the lawn She loved to wash them dishes when the biscuits and gravy were gone I had lots of cousins visitin' day and night They'd come in by the dozens eatin' everything in sight Granny had corn and taters and peaches in a Ball jar She'd work all day and yak all night sittin' out in the yard I lived down Kentucky on a farm with lots of hills Day by day a workin' so I could eat my fill I plan on going back some day so I can see my kin Sure is 'bout the prettiest place that I have ever been One time uncle Paul was out standin' with the sheep That old ram came charging down and knocked him off his feet He grabbed that rascal by the legs and threw him on its side The ram got up and Paul got out before he lost his hide Then that ram he turned around and looked over by the barn Saw a sheep a standin' there wasn't doin' nobody harm Well then that ram he charged again I guess he wouldn't learn The sheep jumped up and he hit the barn and said "Did you see that ewe turn? Oh I lived down Kentucky on a farm with lots of hills Day by day a workin' so I could eat my fill I plan on going back some day so I can see my kin Sure is 'bout the prettiest place that I have ever been One time a bunch of hippies broke down in their van Pulled off the road at granny's hopin' she would understand They all were kind of hungry so they knocked on granny's door She fed 'em lots of viddles and they kept comin' back for more They stayed about three whole days parked on granny's lawn Said that van just would not run no matter what they done So granny asked them them hippies if they would cut the grass The van was gone that afternoon 'fore one o'clock had passed I lived down Kentucky on a farm with lots of hills Day by day a workin' so I could eat my fill I plan on going back some day so I can see my kin Sure is 'bout the prettiest place that I have ever been Sure is 'bout the prettiest place that I have ever been

God is my light and my salvation He watches me both night and day I will not fear; I will not worry God is my light who leads the way God is my strength and my refuge He lifts me up when I am down Wherever I go he's always with me God is my light who leads the way When there is darkness all around me A lovely light comes shining through Then I can see fairest Lord Jesus God is my light who leads the way God is my hope, my rich reward A heavenly home and so much more I want to thank him everyday God is my light who leads the way When there is darkness all around me A lovely light comes shining through Then I can see fairest Lord Jesus God is my light who leads the way God is my light who leads the way

Well it's been so long and I don't know when I'll be back to see you again All I know is that I miss you and that I'm feeling pretty blue "Cause I miss my home sweet home I've been away and I feel so alone And it's been such a long time friend I don't know when I'll see you again There are so many places I'd like to see But I don't think they'd mean that much to me It's home where I wanna be and home where I wanna stay I can see the world some other day "Cause I miss my home sweet home I've been away and I feel so alone And it's been such a long time friend I don't know when I'll see you again The days are long, and the nights are cold I'm thinkin' about those days of old All I have when I'm away Are those sweet memories of yesterday "Cause I miss my home sweet home I've been away and I feel so alone And it's been such a long time friend I'd be glad to see you again The places I go to are all new to me With no one to talk to except for me I want to get back as soon as I can Got to get back to my native land "Cause I miss my home sweet home I've been away and I feel so alone And it's been such a long time friend I don't know when I'll be back again

Well I'm a running down the road Tryin' to pave my way in gold again And sometimes people stop me Just to ask me where the heck I've been But I ain't got time for questions You know I must have heard them all And I ain't got all the answers I'm just learning how to crawl 'Cause I'm livin' on copper diggin' for gold again Well I jumped into a taxi The driver turned and asked me my name He wouldn't stop a talking 'Bout people with fortune and fame I told him my name, And then I told him I was lost He pointed at the meter I said I cannot pay the cost 'Cause I'm livin' on copper diggin' for gold again So I dashed into an alley 'Cause I ain't got time to dally there Then I tripped over the leg Of some punk with greasy hair He said, "Boy you got any money?" With a gun in his hands He took all of my belongings But he's as broke as I am 'Cause I'm livin' on copper diggin' for gold again Yeah, I'm livin' on copper diggin' for gold again Yes, I'm a livin' on copper diggin' for gold again

Fish Tale 03:53
Fish Tale Way out in Virginia lives a country boy He likes to go a fishin'; it gives him lots of joy Sometimes he chases ducks around when he's out there in his boat He's had it such a long time; it's a wonder it can float From time to time he casts out and hopes to get a bite He ain't in no big hurry; sometimes it takes all night He wants to catch the biggest bass the world has ever known He knows where it's a hidin' just he and he alone "Oh Wilbur Cain, whaddya say? When you gonna catch that bass? Is it really out there? Is it just too fast? You been talkin' for a long time, but no one can believe The fish tale you been tellin'. Who'd you think you could deceive?" Wilobur was a sittin' on the lake one night His reel started spinnin', he knew he had a bite Wilbur grabbed his rod and reel and yanked with all his might But this ol' fish was strong and stout; this was gonna be a fight Well the water started splashin'; the boat began to shake He tried to get his balance, then his rod fell in the lake A mighty wave was growin' and headed Wilbur's way Wilbur jumped right outta the boat and tried to swim away Well the wave was gettin' closer which Wilbur tried to beat Then the biggest fish he ever saw was right there at his feet It opened up its big ol' mouth to swallow Wilbur whole Wilbur walked on water to save his doggone soul That ol' fish kept snappin' as Wilbur leaped around He cried, "O Lord help me get my feet back on the ground He fell back in the water and cussed a time or two Then he thought he felt something pulling on his shoe Now Wilbur said, "You rascal you, that shoe belongs to me!" And just right then he noticed his paddle floatin' free So Wilbur grabbed that paddle and whacked that fish right on the head The fish rolled over on its side 'cause Wilbur killed it dead Now that's the way ol' Wilbur caught the world's biggest bass "Whaddya use for bait?" He said, "Funny you should ask Don't worry about the bait", he said, "It's all about the skill So come on boys let's go eat fish til we get filled

about

Good clean country music that is wholesome and comforting with a sense of humor! These songs have filled many hearts with laughter, love, and hope! The humorous title cut, "Taters", and the old style church hymnlike, "The Lonesome Valley", have been highly requested by friends and family alike! There's some great story telling in "Down Kentucky" and "Fish Tale". If you're hungry for the days when music made you feel good you won't be disappointed with this album!!!
